The Oxford Samuel Beckett Theatre Trust Award 2004
The winners of the 2004 award were Mapping 4D with The Pink Bits.
Mapping 4D is an exciting young company that make immediate and intimate theatre, exploring the needs and rituals that underpin our society. They consist of Lucy Ellinson, Wendy Hubbard, Mamoru Iriguchi, Sarah Levinsky and Ben Pacey. The producer is Jon Harris.
Their award-winning proposal, The Pink Bits, was for a production that explores history and how it is manufactured, distorted and used. Played out in a classroom installation, it invites the audience to encounter a world of disintegrating facts and multiple versions of events, where truth is subject to a constant re-writing.
"intelligent, ironic text ... clever theatrical imagination ... bitingly funny. The cast is game and gifted, the production itself intriguing and unsettling ... a group brimming with talent and promise"
"impressively done ... intelligently directed ... excellent lighting and sound work ... committed performances"
"the show's format is innovative"
The final shortlisted candidates were Black Sheep, Sally Gibson and Goat & Monkey, Jessica Hartley, and Dominic Leclerc.
